Colour Challenge featuring Tag Buffet
A colour challenge was recently issued in our team Facebook group to win a randomly drawn prize from our team manager. To participate, we have to make a card using the colours provided and upload a picture to the group challenge post. For some reason, I have missed seeing the first two challenges (I blame Facebook) but this week’s challenge was:
Now, these are not colours that I would normally be drawn to. In actual fact, yellow is one of my least favourite colours EVER! (that and orange – ugh). So you can imagine that this challenge was going to be more than just a little bit difficult!!! (understatement of the year).
I am very much a cool palette kind of girl, so I did think that the blueish hues of Bermuda Bay would be easy to work with, but the yellow is what was really stumping me. Let me add in that this challenge was issued on Friday of last week (4 days ago!) and I have only just now been able to come up with a design.
Looking at the stamp sets spread around my desk, my eyes landed on Tag Buffet and immediately I knew that I could colour a stocking or bauble using ‘blue and yellow’ and it would make for a very nice Christmas card, given that both blue and yellow can be considered Christmas colours, albeit not entirely traditional. So, here it is:
I’ve used a Bermuda Bay standard 1/2 A4 for the card base and stamped with a small leaf tone-on-tone, first and second generation stamping with Bermuda Bay ink in the upper right corner. Using the Rectangle Stitched Dies, I die cut a piece of Artistry Blooms DSP highlighting blue tones and another piece of Flowers for Every Season DSP for the yellow.
AND here’s where it gets a little bit tricky because you see, Crushed Curry isn’t a colour featured in that DSP pack. It is in fact, the 2020-2022 In Colour BumbleBee, but it works here because Crushed Curry and BumbleBee are very close in tone, hue and saturation. I’ve had to use this because it is the only ‘yellow’ piece of paper that I could find in my current collections and also because we (Stampin’ Up!) don’t currently have on offer a DSP featuring Crushed Curry, unless you have the Colour Collections DSP stacks – which I don’t.
I have stamped the stocking on Whisper White with Memento Tuxedo Black and coloured with the Bermuda Bay and Daffodil Delight Stamping Blends.
Yes, that’s right – DAFFODIL DELIGHT! And yep, you guessed it – I did this because we don’t have Crushed Curry or BumbleBee in the Stamping Blends, so Daffodil Delight was the next best fit here. I have also added some Wink of Stella over the Daffodil Delight to give a hint of shimmer in those areas. It really is very difficult to photograph and show just how much shimmer is there, but I hope you can see it.
I continued the stamped leaf images in the upper right corner here too, and added in Cinnamon Cider for the berries.
Certainly not a Christmas card in traditional Christmas colours, but gorgeous all the same. What do you think?
